Rejection & Redirection

Rejection is one of the hardest experiences to navigate as a young adult. Whether it’s being deferred from the school you dreamed of attending, losing a job you believed was secure, or watching a relationship you thought would last come to an end, rejection has a way of making us question our worth, our direction, and sometimes even our faith.

It often feels personal. It often feels confusing. And if we are honest, it can feel deeply unfair.

In moments like these, we find ourselves asking God the same questions over and over. Why didn’t this work out? Why did this door close? Why did something I prayed for so earnestly slip away?

But what if rejection is not actually rejection? What if it is God’s way of redirecting us?

As young adults navigating this season of life, many of us believe we already know the path our lives should take. We create timelines, set expectations, and imagine exactly how our stories will unfold. When life doesn’t follow the script we wrote, frustration begins to rise. Discouragement settles in. Impatience grows. Sometimes we even feel disappointed with God because things didn’t go the way we planned.

Yet God never promised to follow our plans. He promised something far better.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

God sees what we cannot see. He knows which doors will lead us closer to our purpose and which ones will quietly pull us away from it. There are moments when the very thing we are pleading with God to give us is the very thing He is protecting us from. What feels like loss today may be the beginning of something far greater tomorrow.

Scripture reminds us of this truth:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8:28

Rejection often feels like an ending, but in God’s hands, it becomes direction. It becomes protection. It becomes preparation. When a door closes, it is not a sign that God has forgotten you. It is a sign that He is guiding you.

Sometimes the hardest part is trusting Him in the middle of the uncertainty. Trusting Him when the plan changes. Trusting Him when the answer is no. Trusting Him when the path ahead looks nothing like what you imagined. But this is where faith grows. This is where character is shaped. This is where God begins to reveal that His way is not only different, but better.

One day, you will look back and realize that the rejection you feared was actually the redirection you needed. The door that closed was never meant to confine you. It was meant to lead you toward the future God had in mind all along.
